It was a very warm start for the Saint Paul Winter Carnival as the Ice Carving competition started this evening in Rice Park.

While the temps near 40 during the overnight were great for people coming out to watch the competitors setting up and carving the giant ice blocks, the temps were not good for the ice.

Several of the ice carvings that were already completed around the park had already began to melt.

I was out shooting in Minneapolis, MN tonight.

As the cold weather moves in from Canada, the polar temps make their first stop on their way to the Twin Cities in the city of Saint Cloud, MN. Just after noon on Saturday, temps in the city of Saint Cloud were being reported at -2F with a Wind Chill of -21F.

Just twelve hour’s later, the temp has dropped to -12F

Winter weather moved back into central Minnesota just to the north west of the Twin Cities metro area before the big chill this weekend.

Shot in the area around Big Lake and Monticello MN which are right next to each other but on opposite sides of the Mississippi River.

A powerful winter storm system is impacting the northern plains with high winds and heavy wet blowing snow.

Heavy snow made for a travel headache along Interstate 94 from Alexandria, MN to Sauk Centre, MN. The band of heavy wet snow created slippery driving conditions and numerous drivers ended losing control and crashing.
